Retired Senior Volunteer Program
(RSVP)

The "Respond and Serve" volunteer Resource in Chadron.

The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Chadron strives to provide a variety of opportunities for retired, semi-retired, or nearly retired and seniors.  Persons 55 years of age or over, to continue to participate fully in the life of the community through significant volunteer service.  Over 500 volunteers actively contribute their talents at 80 work stations in the Chadron community with volunteer assignments covering a wide range of activities in non-profit, educational, and governmental agencies.

RSVP is part of the National Senior Service Corps (NSSC), a branch of Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).  It exists so that someone like you with knowledge and energy to spare can make a big difference where you are needed the most - in your own community.

RSVP volunteers benefit their community by providing hundreds of community services, ranging from tutoring at-risk youth, planning community gardens, to instruction of computerized information systems and community health organizations.  Through such efforts, RSVP is meeting needs that strained local budgets cannot afford.  If you are at least 55 years of age, you can participate in RSVP.

Interested applicants should call their area RSVP project office at (308) 432-4200.  Project staff will meet with applicants to discuss interests and service opportunities.

Foster Grandparent Program
(FGP)

If you are a senior and want to share your experience and compassion, you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent.

Some Foster Grandparents serve up to 40 hours per week.  They receive a tax-free hourly stipend.  In addition, with Foster Grandparents, you'll receive a pre-service orientation, training from the organization where you serve, and supplemental accident and liability insurance while on duty.

When you volunteer, you're not just helping others, you're helping yourself.  Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends.  Plus, studies show that volunteering helps you live long and promotes a positive outlook on life.
